tailgate problem

Hello, my girlfriend had a 90 bronco and had the back window break. After that, the tailgate was really heavy to lift close. Now, we both have the 95 and the tailgate is all of a sudden heavier than it was to close. She said she heard a loud pop when she was just standing by it. It was parked. She though it was the window. But when I got in it and put the window up, it was fine. However, the tailgate is alot heavier. Any ideas???

There's a big torsion bar in there to help get the tailgate up. Sounds like the attachment clips in the tailgate let loose or it snapped and it broke the window.
