I have a 1989 Ford bronco with 209,000 original miles, one owner, me. No I do not need a new motor. Mine has been one of the few, proud achievements of Detriot or the far east, wherever the parts came from. Anyway, my problem is in the transfer case, which has only moderate usage and as the rest of the vehicle has been very well maintained. The problem happened after using the 4 Wheel Low drive. It seems to be stuck in the lower gear ratio, but will shift just fine from 2-wheel to 4 wheel and back again. I have checked by raising the entire truck off the ground. It has the Automatic locking hubs, which are functioning normally as well is the automatic shift(pushbutton) from 4 wheel to 2 wheel. The only problem is the gear ratio. It seems to be exactly like 4-wheel low. I am contemplating opening the transfer case cover to see what has happened. Any advice on the cause/cure that may involve a few less hours of labor?

It sounds like something is locking up, check the circut breakers for shift-on-the-fly in the fuse panel, mine got stuck in low range once.

Problem solved. I removed the transfer case cover and the low range shift fork was broken along with the ouil pump. I would guess that one caused the other. I bought a rebuilt and installed it. Anybody need a core?
