have a 1993 full size bronco that is stuck in 4 wheel drive, I was using it to assist a winch in loading another vehicle onto a trailer, while pulling the other vehicle onto the trailer I noticed a very load bang underneath my truck after I put in reverse to allow slack in the tow chain, I then pulled forward with no problem, but again when I put it in reverse and backed up just a few feet I heard "AND felt the same load bang from underneath my truck. after loading other vehicle as I pulled fprward I noticed that I could not take it out of 4 wheel, low. It is automatic shift into 4 wheel,( button on the dash) I noticed the bolts missing from underneath and it has backed off  a few inches from the drive line. Some one help...please.

Hi Medic..,

It doesn't sound like you were putting a huge strain on the Broncos drive train being the winch was pulling as well.

If something "gave-up" under there, it's likely you just hurried it along.., meaning it would have "reared it's ugly head"

eventually.

The rear-end could have an issue as well as the U-joints. The transfer case ( I think they're chain driven on that year)

could be on it's last legs.

"I noticed the bolts missing from underneath and it has backed off a few inches from the drive line."

Unclear what this means...? Could you clarify..?

Bolts to what are missing.?  What is "IT" that backed off..?

Shifting forward to reverse while shifting out of 4x4 may get it un-locked.

Having said that.., I don't think this rig is safe to drive from what you describe

I don't own a FSB soooo.., someone may chime-in with first-hand experience with this.

Keep us updated if you would...

B.

After noticing 4 wheel would not disengage, we found out that all the bolts from the transmission tail extension to the transfer case were missing, and that there was a slight separation where they bolt together,I was just able to remove the shift motor and manually shift the shift rod back to 2H and replace the shift motor. hopefully that will do the trick......we will see shortly
