I just purchased a '77 with a 3-1/2" lift. Steering wanders dramatically at times. I'm adding a drop trac bar bracket and new stabilizer. Stabilizer does not line up well because of the lift. Is there a bracket available to drop the stabilizer mount on the frame end? I'm planning on making a bracket but imagine others have had same issue. Also, I am considering replacing the inverted 'Y' linkage system. Current system has a little slop in the rod ends. JBG has old style available as well as conversion system for the inveretd 'Y' Broncs. Any opinions on which is best? How about the new Trail-Proof system? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks-

Welcome to the board.

To start out with, I would stay away from the drop trac bar bracket if you can & would go with a trac bar riser on the axle tube instead (will explain later). If you are looking at upgrading the whole system and even going to the "T" linkage system like what the 66-75 models had, I would recommend looking into Stone Crusher Steering. I am in the process of putting their system on right now and it is amazing how beefy it is. I am doing a tie rod over swap and am also using a trac bar riser from WH. The reason I say to stay away from the drop bracket is that it will put undue stress on your frame at that point. Think of it as a breaker bar when you are trying to get a frozen on nut off. The lengthened bracket can tear your frame open right there. If you use the riser, you aren't creating the same type of torque on the frame or axle. Look Stone Crusher up and give them a call. Talk to Anthony and he can give you a few examples of that very same thing happening. But he can also set you up for converting the steering linkage too. Good price, it was $325, to my door. 1.25" DOM tubing powder coated & heim joint rod ends. Nice stuff.

S bolt19-

Thanks for the info. I've already installed the drop bracket but your reasoning against them makes sense. I may eliminate it when I re-do the linkage. I believe wear in the drag link and tie rod knuckles is my biggest problem. Stone Crusher looks like a great option for a new likage. Looking forward to hearing other's opinions on this too. Thanks again.
