I have a 85 300 I6 with a c6 auto tranny. i'm in the process of installing a new front clip. I tried to start it up to move it to the garage but i got nothing no clicking or anything. The passanger side fender is off and the core support if that matters. Any help would greatly be appreiciated.

Did you unplug the wires from the starter solenoid, or just unbolt it from the fender? It doesn't ground to the fender, but check to see if any wires came off. I'm having somewhat similar problems with my 86, and one power lead from the solenoid runs thru the front core support into the firewall by the steering wheel. I don't know where it goes, but the connection at the solenoid was plain ugly!

Maybe Seabronc has a diagram for the 85/86 300-I6 ignition circuit??? I need help, as the fuse links are gone and spliced with small-gauge wire. Not a good thing, and prolly why she don't want to start, in my case!!!

The starter solenoid does ground to the fender there should be 3 post on it the 2 3/8 ones on the sides and a 8-32 one on the front maybe 2 of them . One of the 3/8 ones goes to the battery positive and the other goes to the starter terminal . The 8-32 one has the wire attached to it that comes from the ignition switch after it goes through the neutral saftety switch . If there is another 8-32 post on the solenoid usually only the older ones this post used to be for ignitions that used a ballast resistor and when the solenoid was engaged and engine was cranking the extra post would pass 12 volts directly to the coil for a hotter spark for starting then when the key was released from cranking the coil got its power through the ballast resistor which eneded up being around 6 volts . The ground to the body is very important . Take your solenoid and then take a battery charger . Clamp the ground to the solenoid mounting bracket and then touch the positive to the 8-32 terminal and if the solenoid is good it will click . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Actually the start solinoid does ground by being bolted to the fender. See attached diagram of start circuit.

Good luck,

:)>-
