I just got through putting a new engine in my Bronco. I have everything bolted up and all the wires and grounds are good. When I turn the ignition, you can hear the starter relay clicking, but the starter will not turn. We replaced the starter and the starter relay and still nothing. I have a good battery, so I know thats not the case. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I would try the battery anyways. Also, you sure your cam is set correctly or maybe your kid put something in the sparkplug hole? (Please don't be mad, I HAD to say it...)

I know you just finished installing everything, but I would go back and double check all connections to make sure they are tight, clean, and in the right place. The clicking is usually a sign that the relay is working but starter is not getting enough juice. Is the battery new, or by "good" do you mean that it has between 10 and 12 volts when you check it? Did you load test it? A battery can give good voltage readings with no load but still not be able to turn the starter. You can check by puting a voltmeter between the + and - terminals and check for a big voltage drop as someone turns the key to start it. If you get a large voltage drop under load, then the battery is bad.

Just wondering can turn the engine over by hand? you know stick a socket on the balancer bolt and see if it will turn over. the engine might be binding up somewhere. Just a thought.

I put the multimeter on the battery under load, and sure enough it dropped down to about 4 volts. I should have a new battery by this afternoon, and I will fill you in on the results. Thanks for the help.

Only 4 volts. I think you found the problem! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
Well, I wish I could say that I have good news. I took the battery to be tested and it tested good twice. When I brought it back home, I retested it with my multimeter and it showed very little drop under load. So... the battery is good, and my starter still will not turn. I can hear the click of the relay and all, but nothing from the starter. I am at a loss here. Any suggestions? :((

I just remembered, when I rebuilt my engine and I went to start it, I had the same problem and what it was is I didn't have the ground wire attached to the block good enough. After I learned that, I went ahead and did a double ground to the block just to make sure. DANG wish I would've thunk about that earlier. Hope it helps...

I will go ahead and recheck all my wiring. I may have forgoten a ground somewhere. I already made sure the block was grounded well enough, but there may be another one I missed somewhere. I'll keep yall updated. Thanks!

also there could be something wrong with the starter itself, also if theres some kind of binding in the engine youde atleast hear the starter making some noise, it wouldn't just do nothing.

I found out what was causing the problem. My starter cable was grounded out on the starter casing. Also my new relay was bad, so I had to use the old one. Oh,well it's fixed and she is running. Now I just need to get it timed and have some exhuast leaks fixed.

Thanks for all the help.
