Well this afternoon i tried to leave but when i turned the key i heard a short grinding like the starter wa turning but not making a full rotation to start my truck is this the battery or starter and my electronics were working. Where can I get a good aftermarket starter?

Sounds like the starter is bad.

The battery is dead on my 86, turn the key and nada. Hook up some jumper cables and it starts O.K.

I bought a rebuilt starter for my 84 at O-Reilly's for about $30, but the 87-up models were like $90+.

The one from the 84 will work on the 87 and up also . I think it was around 92 when they started using the little gear reduction starter but you dont have to have that it just makes it easier to start especially if the battery is worn down a bit . But any V8 starter from an automatic tranny should work . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
