have a 1987 Eddie B.full size 5.0 L 302 . I parked my truck when gas got to $4.00 a gal.

decided to start driving it recently after about 12 months of sitting, had to put new battery but truck started right

away died out in reverse But started right back up filled up tank with hi test and a fuel treatment incase of any moisture

in tank replaced fuel filter after 2 days and again after 3 weeks just to be sure. Truck runs perfect but on occaision

it stalls while driving , sometimes at 50 mph let it sit for 5 min. or so and it starts back up like nothing ever happened

rarely does it stall a second time in same day. Replaced Distr. cap and rotor (needed to be done) a mechanic friend

drove it all day no problems i get in it stop and fill tank and it stalls pulling out into traffic. NO check engine light no stumble

just dies. Had $5,000.00 worth of work done about 2 years ago mechanic said motor had a lot of life left in it and transmission

has been maintained by a local shop , shifts fine. no leaks ,can't find any vacum leaks either. I have been told it could be hall effect pick up, fuel pump , ignition module, 02 sensor etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Intermittant problems can be tough to track down.

Bring a spare plug with you and the next time she won't start, check for spark.

Could be all those things you mentioned and the MAP sensor. So you'll need to try to track it down.

The easiest way to get started it to pull DTC codes from the computer.

Pull Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) From your onboard computer.

Your engine and transmission are computer controlled.

The computer uses sensors to tell it a number of different things and it controls actuators that push or pull mechanical levers (kinda). If one or more sensors aren't working properly, the computer goes "blind" and doesn't know what to do. If the computer can "see" but one of the actuators is broken and therefore can't follow the commands of the computer; the engine won't run correctly. The computer is preprogrammed with set values for each of its sensors, and each of its actuators. It will run a self check of all systems, like the space shuttle; it will compare its set value(s) to the value(s) it recieves from its sensors, and actuators. If any sensor or acutator is out of the "normal" range the computer will generate a "code." It will generate some codes on the fly, and others will be stored while you are driving. There is a simple method to "pull codes" out of the computer for one to use for diagnostic purposes.

Earlier versions of On Board Diagnostics OBD 1983-1995 can flash the error code to the dash board and can be pulled in one's driveway without any special tools.

Later versions of On Board Diagnostics OBDII some 1995, and pretty much all 1996 and newer, require one to use a code reader or scanner tool.

Some auto parts stores will scan your engine codes for FREE, you may want to call around. Some will scan OBDII but not the older (prior to 1996) OBD systems.

SO here you go...

That has the smell of a TFI / pickup module in the distributor. When they go bad they act as if someone reached over your shoulder and turned off the key and then when they cool off the engine starts back up just like nothing ever happened.

Good luck,

:)>-

Broncojoe should've been a mechanics teacher. I've tried explaining the whole codes thing to my sister over the phone to figure out whats wrong with her car and i'm having no luck. maybe i should just copy n paste this clip so at least she will understand the process.
