stall ?

i have a 84 bronco with a rebuilt 302 with less than 1500 miles on it

ok when i start it it runs good untill i put it in gear it stalls as soon as i give it gas

this goes on for like 5 min un less i let it idle in gear then after about two blocks then i can give it gas and it will go and with gas at 3.00 it get exspensive quick could it be my carb is to big

or do u think it is some thing with my trany

It definately sounds carb related, but nothing to do with size. The carb size only has a direct effect on the top end. Believe it or not, a 4BBL can give better milage than a 2BBL. That is because the primaries on a 4BBL are smaller than the 2BBL ports and that is where most people spend their time while driving. The extra 2 ports are only opened up when the engine is at or near full throttle.

All that bla, bla, bla having been said, what Bully Bob said is a good possibility. How old is the carb? Is it the original? Has it ever been rebuilt? Being a 302, I'm guessing a 2BBL. Once it is warmed up to normal operting temperature, do you still have the problem?
