SQUEAL?????

When I'm driving at normal speed, everythings fine. But, when I let off the gas, there is this loud squeal and it sounds like it is coming from the rear. Then the trans. shifts down very hard and the squeal stops. What do you all think it is?

Sounds like tranny trouble. Have you checked the fluid? Is it dark brown or does it have a burnt odor/ Those are signs of slipping. The loud squeal reminds me of an old AAMCo commercial. A car running down the road, or rather squealing, right before all the guts of the tranny dump out on the road. I had an auto tranny do that on the way to the dealership to trade it off.
