Never seen snorkel for Big Bronco. How to prepare my car for wade? What things is need more attention for waterproofing? Sparks, coil, electriс plugs, alternator - it's all clear... Maybe some typical routings for Bronco?

Have you some photos for Bronco snorkel?

EEC - (Engine Computer)

"I'd just buy one of those military grade 40/60 pin male and female connectors and cut the harness just before the eec, extend the wires and add the connector in. Sure it'll take a little time, but you can do a real good job with it.

Quick search finds this - http://www.surplussales.com/computeraccess/MilitaryInterconnect.html

I've seen some nice round weather proof ones that can mount in the firewall and quick disconnect."

--

"the EEC has to cool itself. You can overheat it!

I don't think the EEC was designed for water, but it does very well. I think most problems are from......

Repetitive dunking (if you want a mud truck, go build one)

Corosive mud (you need to rinse out the mud to prevent problems)

Try to clean the EEC, and the connector. Fill the female terminals with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.

Same goes for any alternator, if you get mud in it, rinse it out with clean water to prevent corrosion."

Ok, thank's. I'll try make waterproofing for breatheholes in transmission at near weekend.

I have crazy idea - i think about "internal" snorkel for Bronco. Air duct can run from engine into cabin, through firewall, and then it can be withdrawn outside in plastic part of roof. It will not spoil the look of Bronco.

Maybe I'm wrong and this intake will not be effective. It will be experiment.

Cabin Air Filter Fabrication & Installation Source: by Paul W

"After lots of thought and several headachs I decided to deal with the dust inside the Bronco. Options were:

1) A stand alone blower to pressurize the cabin. The ones I know of were noisy and need a clean air inlet and discharge duct into the cabin On the pickup installs they just use a snorkle intake above the cab. For the Bronco it means cutting the top and finding a place for the lout blower & filter.

2) An add on filter that sits on top of the cowl with a replacable filter has promise but I did not find a scoop that could be adapted to a filter.

I put it inside the cowl with a fabed bulkhead. The filter is a no oil Amsoil nano unit with internal & external cone. Lessons learned: Take off the window trim for easy removal of the cowl cover. If you do not have the cage tube like mine the installis a huge amount easier.

I started with cardboard the went to an ABS plumbing fitting with a 3.5" male thread. Trimmed to fit the bulkhead which I fabed out of .063 Al sheet. A bunch of epoxy connected the two together. In the finals install I used gobs of silicone to make the fit air tight and keep it from coming loose. The filter is so long that I used wire to hold it up the the stock sheet metal and to pull it against the new bulkhead. Much easier with no cage tube since the hose clamp will take the place of the wire. Biggest issue was getting the filter far enough from the crank on the wiper to allow the wiper to operate. In the end my has a small tick that I could not remove. My issuewa would be non existant without the cage.

For cleaning I will just have to resort to my shop vac since the thing will be destroyed when removed. The final pic shows the sheet metal and stock plastic cover to seal up the cowl downstream of the filter.

The intake to the heater/AC is in a sealed well aft of the heater box. The air entering the cowl goes directly to that opening. The heater box is mounted firewall fwd and there is a big door that takes outside air or is closed to give inside air. Anyway, all the air you get inside the Bronco goes thru the heater and the evaporator. See the pic with the plastic cap. When you pop off that cap you can see the heater AC opening directly below. That well has a water drain at the bottom and sure enough it was full of debris that had to be vacuumed out.

I just ordered the following unit . Hope it works?

Also consider the off road/ desert race rigs and NASCAR, etc. race cars Cabin Air Systems.

Read about NASCAR's set-up here.

Here it is in case you can't get to the URL from your loction:

"WIX Filters Awarded Patent for In-Vehicle Air Filtration System

Las Vegas, NV., Wednesday, November 01, 2006

WIX Filtration Corp. recently received a U. S. patent for a cabin air filtration system designed to protect NASCAR drivers from dust, noxious fumes and carbon monoxide.

The unique air-filtration system consists of three parts: an air intake in the form of a window scoop; an air filter assembly that removes particulate matter, noxious fumes and odors then converts carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide; and an air duct assembly for delivering fresh air to the driver through the driver’s helmet.

Air filtration is extremely important to professional racecar drivers because they are subjected to high levels of dust, rubber, gas and oil vapors, and deadly carbon monoxide. The new system from WIX is designed to assure a continual flow of cool, clean air to the driver regardless of conditions at the track.

This advancement in filtration technology is the latest accomplishment in WIX’s 67-year history of innovation," said Bruce Johnston, brand manager for WIX Filters. "The technology behind this new system for NASCAR is also reflected in the cabin air filters that we produce for light and heavy-duty vehicles. Racing is one of our most important research and development initiatives, and all of our customers benefit from what we learn at the track."

The number of cars and trucks with cabin air filtration systems has increased steadily in recent years, and many of these vehicles carry filters designed and manufactured by WIX Filters. While normal traffic conditions are not as strenuous as race tracks, there is growing concern over air pollution and its impact on drivers and passengers. Much like filtration systems developed for NASCAR, cabin air filters for light and heavy-duty vehicles capture contaminants such as soot, dirt and pollen, as well as dangerous airborne gases and odors."

Instead of using a helmet, think about using a flex duct from filter to driver's & passenger's location or routing it into vent duct? The latter would be a hatchet job, of course.
