The '96 Bronco I recently purchased has a pretty rough ride (origional shocks) and I would like a smoother ride. I mainly use te Bronco for street driving and the ocassional trail but would like to have the option of stiffening the suspension for a little rougher riding if the need arises.

I was looking at the Rancho RS9000X with the on-board remote for dialing in your ride from the drivers seat. Does anyone have any knowledge of or and experience with these shocks?

As stated, I mainly ride on the highway so a smooth ride is much more essential than stiffness for off-road use.

Also, I may want to raise the truck later on but not much. I have seen the suspension lifts that are around $89 per axle that lift around 1.5" through 2" that look like they only include some type or spacers or bushings. Are these pretty good for minimal lift applications?

Thanks for any help and/or advise!!

For the front spacers for the springs will do fine for 1-2 inches of lift. Any higher i suggest new coils. I put new coils in for a 3 inch lift to improve ride quality. In the rear use blocks, theyr'e cheap and easy. I have rancho shocks, theyr'e sweet, but haven't got any experience with the remote systems.

you also nedd to take into acount your alighnment, with the i.f.s. front end if you lift it to much without the drop brackets your going to butterfly your wheels wearing out your tires that are anything butt cheap. i would suggest stayimg under 3" if your not going to get the brackets

I have the RS9000X shocks on my 98 Z-71, but I don't have the remote, in-cab dealie. I think it had a little problem working now and then, although that may have been improved since it first came out. I can comment on the shocks.

Every shock I've ever bought had a wire holding it closed to ease installation on the truck. Cut the wire, and the shock naturally expands to full length. And a bad shock won't move at all when you remove it from the truck. The RS9000X is different. IT has no wire holding it, as it only moves when you push or pull on it. It's easy to move at "1", very hard to move at "9". When installed on your truck, a "1" gives a very soft, street ride. Dial it up to "9", and the ride is very firm.

I believed that I would have no use for the adjustable shocks, since I like a firm ride and would only use the "9" setting. Might as well buy a Rancho RS5000. However, I found that "3" is more comfortable for my passengers on smooth roads, and "7" is better-suited for gravel roads or trails. I very seldom find smooth roads in my area, most have potholes, cement expansion joints, poor maintenance, etc. and are rather rough in their own right. I have all four shocks set on "7". This is the best riding shock I have ever had on a Z-71, with the IFS frontend. I had used RS5000's in the past.

It only takes a few seconds to bend down by each wheel and turn the **** on each shock to adjust it.

Look at Summit Racing, they should have a "buy 3 get the 4th free" deal. I paid about $210 for 4 shocks a couple of years ago, but they have this deal every year.

And if you get the 1-2" leveling coils, you may have problems with the frontend alignment, especially with the factory camber bushings. I would not recommend any type of coil spacers on the Bronco TTB front axle either.
