Check your codes first but probably the TPS or O2 sensor. Mine did a similar thing but also surged really bad to the point that it would stall. Put in a new TPS and O2 and it runs like a top.

Good luck.

TPS is located on the bottom of the throttle body. Find your throttle linkage then go to the opposite side of the throttle body and you will find it. You will have to remove the throttle body to replace it.

I believe you have a PCV breather filter in there... change that too; a dirty/clogged air filter can cause Rough idle, black smoke from tailpipeas long as it's not oil soaked, just change the filters

If oil soaked or aroma in future, blow-by gases pressurize the crankcase, the pressure would force the oil up the PCV breather hose & contaminate the PCV

breather filter & air filter.

over time & mileage the throttle plates & body, & TPS, etc. will build up carbon on them, this carbon can cause all kinds of driveability issues

well like what i saw the oil soak in the intake filter. so i have to buy a breahter filter. so now i know why the TPS is not working propely. well thnks very much for the info men . By the way last time the car was ideling bad we have clean the IAC it was black from oil , so now i know that the pvc breather can't causes alot off problem in the future.

ok, but change the air filter and breather as you wrote....check for blow-by; I entered a reply about blow-by in another post here yesterday.

Also, Rich Mixture or Blow-By caused by Dirty Intake Air Temp (IAT), pic on a 92 351W Source: by Richard C

"If your engine runs too rich and you have blowby, the IATS will get dirty like this. It will NOT be able to correctly determine the temperature of the air charge"

It's a 2 wire sensor mounted in the air cleaner housing

blow-by and a fix that Dustin did;

Here is a good article about carbon buld-up;

Carbon Deposits; As a vehicle approaches higher mileage, you can generally expect intake valve deposits (IVDs) and injector deposits. Their onset can vary widely, depending on driving conditions. Engine operating temperature, intake manifold gas speed (rpm) and hot soak cycles are some of the critical operating parameters affecting these deposits. To lubricate an intake valve, tiny amounts of oil have to run down the valve stem. Over time, this oil is deposited and heated on the intake side of the valve, forming a carbon cone. This has multiple effects on the intake event, The carbon changes the aerodynamics of the intake event-namely causing higher gas speed and a change in the direction of intake and swirl, which affects the combustion process. The IVDs also act like a sponge, creating a delay in fuel control. This delay not only creates a temporary enleanment on acceleration but also causes a temporary enrichment on deceleration. When the throttle is closed, the intake manifold vacuum goes high, pulling the fuel out of the carbon sponge. This affects fuel control, potentially affecting catalytic converter diagnostics under OBD II.

Spike, save your $ for the new parts. Or do a SEA FOAM treatment someday; if it running good now, let it be free...

OK Spike..good chOb man!

it is recommended that you check/change the plugs after the process...I pulled just 2 to check....on old 78; one was crudded..so, did a complete check & replace; you can just do a quickie pull of #5...since it's running ok, I wouldn't waste too much time on checking all, esp.# 4, 6, etc.

btw, what type of intake are you buying?
