What all is involved w/ removing the smog system off a 5.0L motor and what effects (if any) will it have on the motor?

Not having the smog system will make your truck an off road only vehicle. Why do you want to remove it anyway?

The effect on the engine depends on what type system is running it, basic ignition or ECC?

The 1990 Bronco with the ECM or computer-controlled engine and transmission relies on the smog/emissions equipment and sensors for proper operation, so I would not remove anything. :excl:

You can remove it if you want and it will function just fine . Go to www.fordfuelinjection,com and they have everything you need to do it for about $40 There are 3 resistors that you splice into the solenoids that control the EGR and themactor solenoids so that the computer sees a load so it thinks its turning them on and off and theres a little resistor pack that plugs right into the EGR plug that tells the computer that the EGR is closed all the time . I have done this to mine so I know it works and the only thing I have seen is that when your on the gas really hard and you let off quick the EEC throws the check engine light because the oxygen sensor sees the mix go really rich for a sec . If you drive it like a normal person it doesnt come on . I wouldnt recomend doing this in a state that has strict emission laws but in ones that dont youll be fine . I kinda think of it like this how many lawn mowers have you seen with a smog pump and an EGR valve ? :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

How many Broncos have you seen mowing lawns :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . There is a vast difference in the amount of polutants that vehicles put out and a once or twice a week lawn mower. Also, the emissions devices are designed to remove polutants that occur at verious engine running conditions. All that is necessary is to keep the systems running properly and that AIN'T hard. What miniscule advantage does anyone expect to gain by eliminating them, 5 HP at 4,500 RPM. Besides doing such, only gives the environmentalists ammunition to legislate your truck out of existance :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

That's my .02 and I'm sticking with it. I want to keep driving my truck, not see it turned into a Toyota :-& .
