Hello

New to your forum but happy to have found it

Just bought a 95 Bronco

at first acceleraration the moment the wheels begin to move there is a slight clunking sound ,it is also present at braking as the vehicle comes to a stop

I climbed under the truck and shook the rear driveline but it didnt seem to be loose or look like the u-joints were bad

This was just a quick look but it seemed fine

A friend has suggested it may be the transmission mount ?

any suggestions as to where to look for the cause of this problem?

thanks in advance for any help

Sam

check the cv joint on the rear drive shaft, the u joints still can be good but the cv joint could be bad. i have to replace mine about every 6 months. or it could be something internally in your tranny.

check the rear end with the truck in neutral- just make sure you block the tires. Also use a pry bar on all the mounts too see if there split- one more thing- check anything that has a rubber bushing- I got a small clunk for awhile- then it turned into a big clunk and it ended up being the radius arm bushing

My SWAG would be the radius arm bushings if they are still the originals. Your truck is around 12 years old and the originals are made of rubber and prone to failure. The clunk would be the ends moving around in the mounting bracket as the vehicles weight transfers when you stop or start.

MARK THE DRIVESHAFT INSTALL POSITION AND REMOVE. REGREASE THE SLIDE JOINT AND REINSTALL. SHOULD BE GONE. MINE DID THAT BEFORE I BLEW IT UP.
