OOPS...?

You didn't get the 6 sided rod in place....that rod plugs into & runs the oil pump.

You may need to pull it all the way out to be sure it isn't rounded off.

They are avail. at auto parts stores.

Ken,

$25 may be money well spent on a Haynes manual.

It covers, step by step, these type of projects.

Prob. save you a lot of headaches (& $$) in the long run.

As I recall, it just slips out....

It seems to me it was best to install it in the dist. hole (in the bottom of the dist.) with some thick grease....that way, the suction wouldn't let it fall out while aiming the dist. shaft into the shaft hole.

DON'T miss-handle it, or it may drop into the oil pan...!

What if the old one fell thru to the oil pan? Did I do any damage to engine by starting it?

Ouch....! prob. not...but it has to come out...that'll req. removing the pan.

That is to say, ...if you didn't run it to long.

And, as long as you didn't hear any slam-bang...clunks..!!!

Hey I was able to get it out with a telescopic magnet (its a miracle)lot easier than removing pan.Thank God.

You can put the shaft back in inspect it for wear and if it looks ok put it back in , When you look down the distributor hole you will see a smaller hole further down and then the hex socket of the oil pump . Use your magnet on the end of the shaft to lower it into the socket once in it will stay there . I have never actually seen one get out of there , There is usually a push on collar just under that lower smaller hole that will not allow it to get out but someone must have had it apart before and didnt put it back on . After all that go through the steps I told you before for putting the distributor back in . As long as it didnt run long should be fine it it were a brand new motor with new bearings I think I might take it back apart . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
