My engine has been running rich for a while. I have a 6 cyl with a 1 bbl Carter carburetor on my 81. I think the model is too old for an oxygen sensor, and even when I lean out the air/fuel mixture with the ****** it doesn't make much difference. Anyone know what kinds of adjustments I can make on the carburetor to try and fix this?

You are right about the O2 sensor - you don't have one on that model.

As far as your course of action; like mbtech said - 'bout all you can do is rebuild or replace.

Good luck!

Could it be something like float settings or something of that nature? I've rebuilt the carb several months ago, but I could have gotten settings wrong.

If not, where's a good place to get a new carb? Both a place that sells something similar (it's only a 1 bbl) but I know that there's more to upgrading a carb than just replacing the carb (manifolds and the like).

Thanks for your help.

Yes....check for dirt in the needle & seat...double check float & needle & seat for proper installation

here we go, i'll share my limited knowledge... you might have messed up on the float level, too high=too rich, too low=too lean. also, if it is rich only at idle, than you'd need to adjust the mixture ****** adjust the butterfly valve, and readjust the mixture *****. if its rich at cruise than you might have a problem with the accelerator pump circuit(when you pump the gas to start it) the check balls might be bad. Also check to see if the choke is set right(not on when engine warmed up). Good luck
