just bought 87 full size bronco it runs good while in gear and moving however when stuck in traffic it surges and I really have to make sure I got extra pressure on the break pedal so I dont rear end anyone(scared the **** out of a group of motorcyclist's stuck at a light behind them on the way home from buying her). Also surges while idling and in park then nearly stalls and will be fine for a min or two and then repeats the cycle all over again. the automatic origional trans has a rough shift into Reverse and shifting into N seems to make it idle a bit smoother. Could this be the torque converter? trans fluid appears to be brand new ....must have been changed right b4 I bought her.

1987 full size bronco

10" lift 35" tires

302 v8 origional engine/trans

144,000 reported miles

Good likelihood that it is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Any check engine light?

Good luck,

:)>-
