Im lookin to buy new rims fo my truck and am curious what the pros and cons are with steel and aluminum. I use the truck mostly for fishing and hunting but i have got into a few difficult runs. Ive been advised to buy steel. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The are a number of differences between Steel & Aluminum.

Most of the fans of steel wheels will tell you if you clobber something & bend the rim ****** you can (try) bend it back.

Steel wheels don't need to polished.

Steel wheels are less expensive.

Aluminum wheels have gotten quite a bit stronger over the years & while I've seen a few get broken it has been under some extreme conditions & the wheel was one of the cheaper things that died.

Aluminum wheels are lighter reducing the the unsprung weight vs. steel, although they a still big differences in the weight of aluminum wheels. By reducing unsprung weight you reduce wear & tear on the suspension, improve braking, acceleration & ride.

Aluminum wheels give you more choices in offset & width, both things that will affect what tires you can run.

Unless your as lazy as me you'll end up polishing the aluminum wheels.

Aluminum wheels are more expensive

Thanks for the reply, I dont think i mentioned that im thinking of an offset rim. Aluminum seems the way to go for my situation. Ill have to price it out and see if my wallet can handle aluminum. :)>-

Thanks again

I run aluminum 15x12 M/T Classics. They are spendy but worth it in my mind due to the weight and depth. Makes the truck more stable but hitting rocks hard can cause a smudge in the aluminum.

The look-a-likes do not hold up as well as Mickey Thompson but the price will tell you that.

Steel is good for rocks only as far as I can see.

In your situation of hunting and fishing a lot I would go with steel because your going to be on rough ground strewn w/ rocks and stumps and other obstacles. But it's your choice. That's just my opinion.

Another thing to think about is if you run large tires on stock axle shafts you would want alum to help reduce the weight spinning.
