Hey everyone....I've searched the old forums but can't really get a straight answer. I'm putting a 6" lift with 35" ProComp AT's on my 95 and I don't know if I need to regear. Should I? Will I really notice that much of a difference?

Most likely but not necessarily so. It all depends on your current gearing and how you will use your truck. However, those tires will probably put your engine on the low end or below the acceptable RPM for normal cruise. With my gearing, 33's put me into the performance DOG range.

Jeff's Bronco Graveyard 80 and up catalog has a real nice chart on page 42 for selecting the proper gears based on wheel size. It is calibrated for a 55 MPH cruise speed, so if you cruise at say 65 you have to shift about 5 columns to the left. For example 35 is in column 12, shift left to column 7 which is labled 30. He also gives you the information to do your own calculations.

The choice is your's and is mostly dependant on how you plan on using your truck. If primarily off road, then chose gearing that brings the RPM up into the power range. For economy, stick closer to ther lower RPM range. Then there is also a choice that falls about 1/2 way between the two. So based on that, putting on 35's could put you right where you want to be. If I had a strictly off road vehicle, I personally would go for stronger axles and gears thet would make it a "screeming meme" if it was on the highway.

Hope this is helpful. As always it is offered "for what it is worth" and hopefully will cause you to think about, perhaps do some further research on the subject and not have you installing my choices.

Good luck,

:)>-

in case you were looking for numbers, 4.56's will probably give you the best performance with 35's.

I agree 4.56 is a good choice if you keep the highway cruise speed at 55. That runs your RPM around 2400 which is just about the center between best economy and best power. However, if the cruise speed is 65 then it puts the engine around 2900 RPM. If economy is the concern 3.54's at 65 MPH highway cruise speed makes a good choice. So it all depends on how the truck is going to be used that determines the best choice for the one paying the fuel bill :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . With gas rapidly approaching $3.00 per gallon gearing becomes an important issue to consider. That's unless you don't have anything else to spend your money on.

Good luck,

:)>-
