They should match, once again, you have to check the tags. 3.55 was standard but I believe that there were options.

Sometimes the tags are missing if you have to pull the cover and spin the ring gear around till you find where it says DANA and some numbers . I cant remember what 3:55 is but 4:10 will have 41-10 stamped in the ring gear . Thats a 41 tooth ring gear with a 10 tooth pinion . Divide the ring gear by the pinion and thats the ratio :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

They'll both be 8.8" axles and both will interchange just fine. The only real issue will be if they both have the same gear ratio or not. Ck either the axle tag (sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't ) Or ck the axle code on your door sticker. The Salvage yard *should* be able to tell you just what ratio the axle they're selling you has and from there you can compare it to what you *had* and decide if you want it or not. The vast majority of axles are 3.55's with the occasional 4.10 thrown in to keep things interesting. A 4.10 will be a better ratio to have if you're running larger tires but of more immediate importance will be making sure the front & rear ratios are the same or at least close enuf for the 4WD to work (a 3.50 front & 3.55 rear is just fine. a 3.50 front & 4.11 rear will cause problems)

Ah... that's interesting.

I have a 3.55 rear. I am certain that the tag had the numbers 355 in that sequence, and that there was a decimal point somehere, but NOT at 3.55 With your explanation, I would put a SMALL wager that it is a 35.5-10

Hmmm more fun facts to know and share.

Thanks

Well its a good thing you didn't take me up on that wager!

So ofcourse what you said made sense, and I *had* to go crawling under my truck in the rain to find out what the tag actually said.

I have a 3L55 and other number letters , but I am guessing that it is a 3.55 with a limited slip.

Ok Joe heres what it will have stamped in the ring gear

3:54 dana 44 39-11 dana didnt round up

3:55 ford 8.8 39-11 Ford did round up

3:73 41-11

4:10 41-10

4:56 41-9

Ive always seen these numbers stamped in the ring gear so if your missing the tag this is the next guess free option :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
