i did the oil pan gasket in my 90 with the motor in the truck. there is no getting that pan out, you can wiggle the new gasket in there, but if you drop a piece of the old one in the pan you're F'ed, and mine was in many pieces. if you have the means i'd follow steve83's advice.

I have done the oil pan gaskets with out pulling the engine.Un do the motor mount bolts to the frame,Then get a block of wood or a jack stand if you have a lift,And jack the engine up by the crank pulley.BUT dont force it.Ive heard stories of people snapping the front of cranks off,But never had any personally happen.I found that jacking it up gives you plenty of room between that cross member and the oil pan, allowing you to move things around. And if you have the one piece gasket you can put the front on first, pull it to the center of the pan to slide the rear of the gasket over the back of the pan.Its less work than pulling the engine,BUT for the rear seal, you still have to get the trans out of the way.So button up the oil pan gasket.Bolt the mounts back down and yank the trans out to get to the seal. Its still easier than draining your antifreeze,Disconnecting the fuel lines, rad hoses, power steering lines, exhaust pipes, wiring and anything else,,When you can disconnect 2 trans lines,2 driveshafts,Bellhousing bolts, starter, torque convertor bolts, and a cross member and your speedo connections, and drop the trans,At least you dont need an engine hoist, antifreeze, and broken bolts for the exhaust pipes to the manifolds....Good luck :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
