Hello all, Im Steve from Savannah Ga. I have a 84 Bronco XLT in pretty fair shape, except for the tailgate glass. It has been shatterd and needs replaced. My question is this, I can get the glass for about 115 bucks and install my self or I can have the glass company do it for about 215 total. Not sure how to attach the brackets that the regulator rides in to the bottom of the glass and other concerns.

Any opinions???

Yo Steve;

I'd diy; esp since Steve83 here has a lot of detailed info on da TG!

Since he hasn't posted here yetl here it is;

REPAIRS - COMPREHENSIVE!

& good too!

Replacement in an 88 (many photos) Source: by Dustin S (Dustball, Mellow Yellow, Mr. Laser Boy) at http://ylobronc.users.superford.org/tailgate.html

He is swappin tgs..his pics will help too

HEED ADVICE by both on:

"The next step is to remove the bracket holding the torsion bar to the body. Take extreme care here as the bar packs a lot of force. I recommend trying to remove the bracket while the tailgate is as closed as possible to relieve pressure on the bar. I was foolish enough to do it with the tailgate down. Both bolts broke off allowing the bar to snap back and sent the bracket off to never-never land. I was never able to find the bracket so I had to get another one...."

btw'

I use a standard height saw horse with a blanket folded to support da glass.. make sure the tailgate is resting DOWN fully (horizontally) by pushing or sitting on it before pulling glass out by hand (or closing driver side Latch by hand and using Key sw or driver's Dash switch to energize motor) and sliding saw horse under da glass...the cables need to fully stretched..
