My passenger side rear drum brake on an 89 Full Size is has got me scratching my head. Yesterday on a 20 mile drive to work I started to feel the drag at a stop sign about 5 miles out. By the time I got to work it was hot enough to show a bit of smoke. I drove it to lunch and no drag, everything seemed fine. Driving home I stopped a few times and all seemed fine until about 5 miles out and it started dragging again. I took it to the mechanic this morning, took the hub off and everything seemed ok. Put it back together, drove it ten miles, no drag, no unusual heat. So I headed out to work and almost at the same distance I was getting the drag again. The mechanic said he just didn't see anything that looked like the problem. The only thing that I can say is any different is that the brake pedal seems harder than it used to. Any ideas what to try next would be appreciated.

Perhaps either your return springs are weak, OR your emergency brake cable is sticking.
