i have a 1990 full size and need to r & r the front rotors, I was told by a mechanic that i have to pull down the whole hub assembly to pull the rotors, does it take a 2 3/8 " 4 prong or a 2 5/8 " 6 prong nut socket to pull these down?

You need a 4-prong spindle nut socket tool for a Ford 1980-1996 4WD F-series/ Bronco. You can buy one for aabout $15, or rent it for free a most auto parts stores, JSM84

Thanks. Very cool, I happen to own one in 2 3/8 diamater. It fit my old Chevy 4X4, so thought I was going to have to find something else.
