I'm posting this because i have read many topics with people trying to do this install and then they never follow up on it with how they did it or if they ever did manage to figure it out. I have done this twice now and will guide you through the steps i took. I will warn you however you MUST put a hidden switch if you live in an area with a high rate of theft. I luckily live way out of town and dont have to worry about it so i dont have one installed but will tell you where you would need to put it. These steps are for my 87 and it will vary depending on your exact truck
The first place to start is to remove all the covers from the dash. Then take the steering column bracket and drop it down. On top of the steering column there will be a connector mounted. It will have large 10 gauge wires running to it. Probe it and find out what your battery constant wires are. Mine were 2 yellow wires. You can also get this info from a schematic. Disconnect the battery. Cut Those wires off and tie them into a terminal with 4 connections. Run a wire from one of the connectors to a toggle switch you will later mount. Run a wire from the other side of the toggle switch to a relay. A basic bosch relay will work. Run a wire from the last power terminal to your main power on the relay. Ground out the relay. Now reconnect the battery, hit the toggle switch, and make sure you have voltage coming out of your relay. If you do go back and disconnect the batteries. If you dont you have connected something wrong and need to start checking your wires. Now you need to run a wire from the outlet side of your relay down to another terminal with 4 connections. Check your schematic and find your ACC and IGN wires and any other wires that need power with the key on from that harness. Cut them away from the connector you unplugged and connect them to the terminal with power from the relay. Now reconnect your battery and hit the toggle switch. Your vehicle should turn on, but not crank. If this is what happens, you've done everything right, if not go back, and start checking wires again. All you need to do now is tie into one of your battery constant wires and run it to your push button. Now run a wire from your push button to the starter wire on the connector you unplugged from the column. That connector should now have nothing left on it. Mount the push button and toggle somewhere on your dash. DONE. Since ive done this twice now it only takes around 30 minutes from start to finish. Oh, and about the security for the theft problem. Just put another toggle switch in between your constant power and your dash mounted toggle. HIDE IT SOMEWHERE PEOPLE WONT LOOK. I would suggest under the PASSENGER seat or somewhere like that. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I hope this explains it well enough.
