Ok I just reinstalled a newer 302 motor in my 1990 bronco and the dam thing wont fire up when I try to start it. I replaced the Ingition coil, solenoid and all the spark plugs. It is getting a good spark (checked with a tester) from the distributor and there is fuel getting to the injectors. When i turn the key it sounds like it wants to start but doen't i had the battery checked and that was good it has been recharged and still no love any ideas would be great

Recheck the distributor alignment, it probably is not aligned up with cylinder #1 when #1 is at TDC on the intake stroke. Also, recheck that the plug wires are in the correct order.

Good luck,

The easiest way I know is to remove the plug from the #1 cylinder, remove the distributor cap, remove the passenger side valve cover, using a bump switch on the start solenoid turn the engine over until the intake valve is opened on the #1 cylinder,(first valve from the front (front to back I-E I-E I-E I-E)), and check that the rotor on the distributor is pointing to the #1 spark plug position, (that you previously marked on the side of the distributor :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> ). If it isn't close, remove the distributor and reinsert it so it is. That will get you in the ball park, after that you may have to move it a tooth if the engine tends to backfire. Also, turning the engine over may be less of a problem with all the plugs removed to relieve the effects of compression.

If you think you can handle that, go for it. If not, give it to a mechanic.

Good luck,

:)>-

I knew there was a reason I started to say remove the plug from the #1 cylinder  , you can use a long wooden dowel, (long enough so it can't possibly fall inside the cylinder, that would be the pits as you would have to remove the head to get it out :-& ), to see when the cylinder is at TDC. I am reminded that you have an EFI engine and that it is easier said than done when it comes to removing that valve cover. I think Carb, maybe an EFI guy can jump in here. Also I left out that once you are at compression stroke the timing marks need to be aligned for correct initial timing.

Hope that helps.

What did the engine come out of? If its out of a mustang or likewise a ** engine it uses the 351w firing order. In order to get it to run you will either have to convert the engine to the truck or the truck to the engine. You can either take the injector harness from your old engine and install it on the new one and the camshaft, and use the old 302 firing order. 15426378. Or should be able to get away with using the computer from a truck that had a 351w.
