I've got an 86 with the stock fuel inj. 302. It starts fine when cold, but when I start it warm (even after just a short drive), the starter has to crank for a while to get her going. Any thoughts?

Hate to disagree, but DO NOT wrap any heat shield around your pipes or starter. That stuff creates a breeding ground for rust. You may need a new starter...or solenoid. Get er' checked.

I had the same problem. Replaced the starter and it was fine. Best bet is to get one from Autozone with the lifetime waranty. I did that about 2 years ago and I have replaced it about 12 times. ( starters do not like swimming!!!) You never need a receipt or anything. Great deal if do a lot of off-roading in deep water as any stock starter will bite it after swimming enough.
