If you find a "cheap" way,.... PLEASE come back & "POST" ...!! ^_^ /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Your rig looks good, don't "gerry-rig" it.

The expense is the BOX...& the correct steering shafts.

Pullies, belts, pump, brackets, cooler can all be found here-n-there.

I've installed 3 used kits...1 being the F-150 box conversion. I don't really like that set-up, but it worked. (drilling frame, tacky shaft set-up, etc.)

I paid $600-$800 for the used (factory)kits. Like them best.

The "cheap" way can sometimes cost as much as the expensive ways too....and at times they may not be done right.

As for the best (my opinion) and the easiest way, get or find a 73-75 Bronco setup. They bolt directly into the original holes that the manual box go into. No drilling required. You are also set up for it as far as the inner fender, inner grille and radiatior. NO CUTTING NEEDED!!! Dont get the 76-77 setup because then you will have to change your steering set up from the current T-steering linkage to the inverted Y setup. Just something more of a pain in the rear if you are trying to go cheap.

This set up will cost you roughly $800 to get it done and about 4 hours to take out the old box & steering shaft and install the new box, shaft & pump. The most worth while upgrade I have ever done.

The F-150 setup like Bob said is less likeable because of drilling and also it hangs about 2" (pitman arm shaft) lower than the Bronco does.

I use the F-150 conversion and I like it, but i run full size running gear too. This is probably the cheapest method. All you need is to get a 77-79 full size steering box and a pump (junk yard finds). As for the drilling....drill the steering box not the frame... use the original holes and drill the box to fit. The 77-70 pittman arm does hang lower. as for the bracket BG would have one, or you might get lucky in the junkyard.

one of the biggest things about the 77-79 box is that you need to trade out the worm gear in case so the arm points backwards. Easy switch. shouldnt cost over $300.

I used a 73 Scout setup (saginaw) with pitman arm facing forwards. I drilled new holes in the frame, beefed up inbetween the frame rails so it wouldn't crush. Then plated it all with 1/4" and mounted the box up next to the trac bar mount on the frame. This kept the steering in the same locaton as if I had the reversed style box like stock since its sits further back. Guess what I'm saying is you can use what ever if you can do the work yourself. reverse worm gears are available for many boxes if you like it that way. I heard the F100 Vans turn easy. I remember my 89 Bronco could turn with one finger with 35's aired down. Look around, you will find writeups online.
