Alright, I'm right at the end of my first attempt at gear installation on the front Dana 44 of my '77 Bronco. I'm through cussing the fact that the nice clear contact pattern drawings look nothing like the real thing and I'm ready to put this thing all back together and get it back under the truck.

However, when I look at my shop manual I seem to be short one part. (See attached picture, it's a screen shot of the shop manual).

I got a Yukon master install kit, and I'm pretty certain it came with the "inner-front slinger", "inner-rear slinger", and "outer seal" (although what I think is my outer seal does not have the indentation shown in the drawing--it's flat.) What I can't get any good answers on is the "deflector" that is shown between the seal and the yoke.

Can anyone tell me what this is, if I need it, and where I can get one?

I appreciate it.

Ford is probably the quickest.Get numbers off tag on axle if its still there to order.Deflector also comes with the yoke,it shows. If you get the Dana/Spicer numbers off the drivers side axle tube facing forward(date and build #s you MAY be able to find from NAPA

The "deflector" you see is actually on the yoke.

Primarily it is used to protect the seal from damage.

If you didn't have one on your yoke, and don't see a lot of heavy off road use, you'll never miss it.

On a more important note...

Don't just give up on the pattern...

depending on how bad your pattern is, you could actually destory your gears the first time you use 4 wheel drive!!

Alright, I'll see if I can't find a yoke with a deflector on it. As for the gears, I appreciate the advice. I guess I made it sound like I just got fed up and threw it back together, but I really did keep adjusting until my contact pattern looked the way I wanted. I just thought it was funny how it's never as straight-forward as you expect it to be. Should've learned by now.

Thanks for the input.
