Well, yet another problem I have. I was crusing home today down I-95 doing 75 with my cruise control on. All of a sudden, it jumps to 5000rpms and kicks into the next gear really, really hard. So I figure ok, whatever, and ignore it. Well, I get off the ramp, stop at a light, and when it goes green I cant move. The truck goes nowhere. I put it in reverse, thats fine. As is 1 and 2. I drive to the closest parking lot in 1st gear and assess the situation. When I shift to drive, nothing happens, except it tries to crawl to little avail. all the other gears work fine. When I hit the OD cancel button on my dash, it works fine. Any idea what could of caused this? How come my OD no longer works?

I swear its just problem after problem with this thing.

yo Matt!

Could be a simple under $100.00 repiar or more; do you have a Check Engine light on (CEL)

or if the OD Cancel LED (Transmission Control Indicator Lamp) is flashing (Means a Fault-trouble code is present)?

If so, get a free Code ck at AutoZone or diy;

EEC-IV Self Test & Connector Location & pics, Bronco & Ford by Ryan

can do the Key ON, Engine OFF test;

the common problem could be

634 Transmission Manual Lever Position Sensor circuit out of self test.

manual lever position sensor (MLPS). The MLPS is also called a transmission range sensor (TRS). The problem is mainly related to water intrusion from a poor connector seal. Ford sells an update kit that comes with a new Range sensor, and an updated connector with an improved seal. The Ford part number for the update kit is F5TZ-7A247-AA. Your local Ford Dealer will sell this for around $100.00; but can get cheaper on www ... at Rock Auto, NAPA.

and read this article on MLPS and a No CEL (Code) condition;

Specifically;

"Some of the problems the MLPS can cause are wrong- gear starts, TCC hunting, no 4th gear, engine stalling, high or erratic line pressure and the problem that this article is about

Its not throwing an engine light and the OD light isn't blinking. I'm taking it to my tranny guy on Monday. I will surely tell him about this though, thanks.

Just got back from the tranny shop and the news is grim. its nothing electrical, and they can't be sure what it really is until they take apart the tranny. that would cost at a minimum of $500.

I am up shit creek without a paddle.

I know you said that the tranny guy told you it wasnt an electical problem but I would guess the speed sensor in the rear end. No one thinks of that and it was doing the exact same thing to me. Killing OD and not wanting to go anywhere. Just thought I would throw in my little bit... :unsure:

Hmmm the one in the rear end should only be for the anti locks and the PSOM on 92 and later the E4OD has one built in . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have a 91, so the speed sensor in the rear end could be the verdict? And apparently the E4ODs are 90 and 91 specific so I can only get a tranny from those 2 years. :\

well i have a 92 bronco and speed sensor is in the differential and i gotta replace it cause it would cause my transmission to like not shift right cause when i would stop at a stop sign and then try to move it would be trying to crawl but if i shift into neutral and shift back into drive it would be fine til next stop sign.

I would also suggest the speed sensor since it's a lot cheaper than the tranny "fix" and you can change it in a matter of minutes. I don't think there's ever a bad thing about a new sensor anyways.

Thats the typical statment from a "Tranny Guy" They say they can't tell until the tranny is apart. The see the clutch residue in the pan and refuse to re-assemble the transmission unless you authorize a rebuild which will be upwards of 2000.00 or more. They are setting you up for a nightmare. And if you refuse you take your truck in pieces.

the article I cited does state that; "...This sensor is responsible for more malfunctions than any other sensor in the sys- tem, and the kicker is that it seldom stores a code 67 or 634..."

and, "...of the problems the MLPS can cause are wrong- gear starts, TCC hunting, no 4th gear, engine stalling, high or erratic line pressure and the problem that this article is about
