So I bought this 1980 F-150 4X4 from this guy a couple weeks ago. Installed is an aftermarket 351W with all the EGR fixins. :-& I am currently taking the motor apart to repair a leaky rear main seal on the engine where I notice that the oil sump is in the front of the engine and not the back. Could this be true? Something else that puzzles me is that the motor mounts were not attached to this engine directly. Between the motor mount and the engine were two (one on each side) square pieces of tubing. If this was the wrong oilpan then it would me sensible to raise the engine a few inches so that it could fit. I know as much about Ford engines as I do about nuclear physics. I was raised in the Chevy World. Sorry for the curseword.. I'll wash my hands when I am through with this entry. SO ... I talked to a bunch of techies that state that they know a lot about Fords and they all told me the same thing. The 351W on a 4x4 has two oil sumps.. a small one in the front and the larger one in the rear. "Well Bio" I told myself, "You got to do this the right way, so you must find a Oil Pan and pickup for this truck."
I searched high and low for this mysterious oil pan. The best one I found prior to visiting Broncegraveyard.com, was a 250 dollar job through Summit Racing. I wasn't paying that kind of money for this buget project.
Well what I am getting around to is this... Oil pan . Is this what I need? Please gimme some input on this. I wanna make this injustice right and get this Ford back on the trail as soon as possible. Also, what about those motor mount square tubing pieces? Can I trash 'em or do they belong with the assembly?
