I want to swap out my Oil gauge along with the Coolant and Volt gauges. I was thinking of buying a package set with the three. But the main one I want to change is the Oil PSI. and don't know where the sending unit is on this block 1989 302. I was also wanted to know if I change all three sending units out hooked up to three inside gauges will it set off the check engine light with the units disconnected and hooked up to wet gauges??

Tired of those glorified idot lights that are descuised as gauges? I did the same thing, but I don't have a EEC engine. The oil pressure sender is on the front left side of the engine in front of the oil filter. I keep my idiot gague working by installing a T connection there. For temperature I found another location besides the idiot senders location. If you have a water neck that has a plugged hole you can mount it there. I have mine mounted just behind that in the fitting that supplies hot water to the heater core. As far as the voltage gague, pick a place to tap in that is on when the ignition key is on.

Attached is a picture of my arrangement, Oil pressure on on the left, vacuum gague on the right, below that is the voltage gauge and next to that is my electric fan override switch and indicator that lets me know when power is applied to the fan, in the bottom right is a two gauge cluster one of which is where I mounted my temperature gague. I have a couple of more gauges in mind, but not installed yet. Basically if It can be easily disconnected to get at the instrument cluster it goes on the old instrument bezel, if not under the dash. I will probably start working on a custom dash one of these days to get them arranged in a more orderly aircraft arrangement.

I like gauges B)

Any way then you don't have to concern yourself about the check engine light if you find alternate ways to hook them up rather than displacing the old senders.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thanks!! I didn't even think of hooking them up that way without disconnecting the sending units. I will look at hooking them up as you suggested and I really like the way you displayed your gauges while keeping the installed gauges. The oil PSI. was the main gauge I was really looking at replacing while adding the other two. I will have to look at findind a T-fitting for the oil PSI. Thanks!!

remember being EFI it needs those sensors to keep the truck running ok. if u want your own sensor u might have to tap into their wiring to get the new guages working like seabronc said.

the guage company usally has directions on how to do this in their box, or i'm sure u can call their hot line and ask them.

That's a really nice, clean set-up Seabronc!!! I've seen the 3-gauge cluster mounted under the dash as an alternative. My 86 has that, I think, gonna look for a pic.
