Guys....need some help again...

Removing the drums on my '75 bronc. Rear drums came off easily.....but the front drums are not budging!! I've adjusted the shoes to insure they are not binding....and the drums turn easily...but still will not budge.

Is something else holding the front drums on? Your advice again please. THANKS

The fronts will rust/stick in place around the hub hole & the lugs.

Usually some PB Blaster & a large "mallet" will pop them loose.

In addition., heating with a propane bottle will help.

However you don't want to warp them with a "BFH" ..!!

Soooo.., just keep working them.

Alright....I'll look for a retaining *****....and keep taping away on them.

They do seem to have something very solid holding them....as this Bronco is very clean and the shoes loosened up easily.....and the drum feels extremely solid when hitting it with the mallet. I have sprayed it down with blaster but stopped pounding on them because I thought something in the hub was holding them. They are the 11' drums.

thanks guys

Worst case.,

You can pull the hub., & wheel bearing guts & the drum will come off with the hub.

You can then work it to seperate it.

I've not heard of anything holding ford EB drums on...The old Land Cruisers had a locating ****** I believe. :-B

One last note....!!

I believe there may be some "aftermarket" drum/hub set-ups out there.

(meaning they're all one piece.)

---Not likely but there's a remote poss. that's what you have.----

If they're seperate., (stock) you should be able to see a line/gap around the lugs., & the big center hole as well...you might have to scrape or wire brush to see clearly.

Thanks Bully.....I will do just that...wire-brush around the hub in an effort to see if they're one-piece. My guess is though that they are factory originals as I purchased this particular bronc from the original owner some years ago. He had kept it bone stock and kept a little wire-ring notebook (of which I have)that lists EVERYTHING he ever did to it...including oil changes..REALLY (it's pretty cool) But know that you brought that up...and I'm reminded of the "notebook"....maybe I'd better go thru it as it is certainly possible that he DID do something with the front hubs. If he did, I'm certain it will be noted.

Thanks for your help BB. It is appreciated. I'll let you know how it turns out

You know, I have literally disassembled this Bronco down to the chassis, already rebuilt the 302, got the body media blasted, new metal welded on and primered. But I STILL have not got the front drums off this Bronco!?!?!?

I know now that the drums and hubs are one piece. Being the original equiptment, I removed the screws from the chrome housing....and nothing happened. I've tried unscrewing them with no results and have gently tapped them to get them to move....but they do not.

My question this time is: Does that housing ***** off and on??? Or does it just pull staright off? I'm assuming it unscrews. But would like to be sure.

Thanks again

I was looking at my drums..., :-B the drum center hub hole slips over the hub loosely then centers in place on a "lip".

And, ea. lug has a gap/recess around it.

Once the drum is up in place on that lip..., the drum will rotate 'til it bumps into ea. lug...back & forth.

Also., my drum has 5 extra lug holes but smaller. I recall on one EB, sharpening a screwdriver & hammering it in the gap in a few of those holes & broke the drum loose that way.

If you can see that lip on the hub center..(approx. 1/8th inch tall) & a gap around the lugs.., it should seperate.

Did you try heat..?

My drums practially fall off when wheel is removed. (just what you needed to hear..!) B)

See your other post for drums. :)>-

The hubs.., what brand.? or do they have the red turn/locks..? (Ford)

They should just pull off. Might have to tap a knife edge in the joint to get'um started.

Believe there's an "O" ring up inside there that serves as a seal. It could be sticky.

Yep...."just what I wanted to hear" Bully. But once again that gives me some hope and something else to look at. I'll be back afte it again today trying the "sharpened screwdriver" and more heat. And btw, they are Ford hubs.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks so much
