Now I got transfer case troubles

Happy New Year!!!

I have a problem with my transfer case. It seems to "free wheel" when I take my foot off the gas. But there is a "grinding sound" When I give it gas it recconnects. I also lost reverse,unless I switch the dash button to 4X4. I had the tranny man change the fluid. So I thought it was that he put in 90 wt instead of ATF. The fluid is really black like he didn't change it. And the fluid smells like motor oil not ATF.

I did a search, and Miesk5 touched on the symptom and said it's a bad electric motor. I have 2H,4H, and 4L. so the motors working. I'm confused.

Also there is suposed to be a 3/8 drive slot to manually shift into a gear on back of the transfer case. I can't seem to find it.

I had my wife push the 4X4 buttons and the shift motor runs through the gears with no hunting for a detent. I'm thinking that the motor is not strong enough to hold in 2H?
