1979 bronco, it has new coil new plugs new wires. Problem is it tries to fire when you let off the key to the run position?

Now when you trun the key off starter stays engaged, also if you trun the key to the run position it will create a spark in the ignition. Any ideas where the problem is, or what it is.

Thanks!

i haeve hhad a similar problem and the slution was to chhange the ignitin key cylinder. the tumblers go out very easily on fords, and the switch will stay engaged in odd places. if that does not work, youre only out 10 bucks and you have fresh keys anyway.

Hi and thanks for the post. We just now pulled the starter off and hooked up the jumper cables and it won't turn over,

so we belive that the starter is the problem. But ill keep that switch in mind.

First off-if the starter trys to start-before you took the starter off-its good--and since you let up off the switch and it keeps on trying to start-its your switch. and 3Rd--------the reason your starter does not turn-after you took it off-you probably do not have it grounded. I believe when you put the starter back on and the new switch in(if it is good(sometimes you can get a bad-new one) the switch will work fine.Good luck
