hi all

unfortunately it's getting winter and my heat is not working anymore

i think i know the problem but just want to make sure i'm right before i 'll start

last summer my air condition started to blow out steam behind my dashboard

first i thought the car is going to burn down but the garage told me it's ok and they going to fix it

so they "fixed it"

but now i figured out they probably just disconnected the hose to the heater core (see photo)

because first of all the air condition doesn't work and second the heat doesn't work either

my question

do you think if i am putting in a new heater core, connect it with the hose and put in coolant the heat would work again?

or is that only for the air condition??

and here is another question and you'll see i'm not really familiar with car repairs ;/

my radiator seems to leak

actually there is a bigger radiator and a small one (which i don't know if i really need it???) in front of it

but both seem to be leaking (see photo)

so the question is, could this also effect my heat? or is that another story?

and the radiator is just to cool the engine!

thanks so much for your help

happy holidays

alexander

Hi Alexander,

Replacing the heater core and reconnecting the hoses, as they should be, and you will probably have fixed your heat problem.

The pictures show your radiator (covered in black gunk) and the thinner radiator in front of it (your air conditioner condensor coil). My guess (unless you are loosing coolent) is that the A/C condensor sprung a leak, and the oil that is mixed with the freon sprayed onto your radiator, leaving that icky mess.

SO unless you are replacing coolent, and or see green puddles of coolent, you may only need to replace the core and you'll be good to go. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

That small radiator is the transmission oil cooler. Note the clamp connection, A/C doesn't connect that way. You can get away with bypassing it for now, but it will definitely help to have it in the Summer. It could just be the hose connection, which is easily replaced. If it is the cooler itself, get one from a local friendly auto parts recycler, NAPA, LMC Truck, etc. You can buy an aftermarket kit at most parts stores. In fact from looking at the picture again it is an aftermarket transmission cooler. The A/C condenser is the one behind it that the trany cooler is tie wrapped to.

Good luck,

:)>-

Seabronc as usual is right. I guess I should have looked at the third picture.

Guessing that the trans fluid is what is all over, you should be sure to check your trans fluid level in the truck.
