I am Dave from New Jersey and I just purchased a 96 bronco XLT with a 302 in it. The first car I ever owned was a 83 bronco with a 351 in it back in 96 when I was a senior in HS. I need to install an engine in it when I can since the one in it is siezed. Can the 351 bolt right up to the same trans

Also this truck has a brand new computer in it. Is there a chip I can get to increase the power?

yo DAVE,

WELCOME!

If you have a E4OD transmission you must get a 5.8 PCM (computer) from an E4OD equipped Bronco or truck. But be careful & don't get one that was on a flood damaged vehicle!

The 96 5.8 is slightly diff from the 96 5.0 because Ford deleted the Smog Pump, Thermactor Air Control Solenoids, etc. from the 5.8; which is good!

But the PCM needs to be for the 5.8; without the correct PCM, you'll have Check Engine Light and Codes set; so inspection will be diff to pass.

For part numers of major sensors & PCM see;

Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Decal; Contains Vacuum Diagram & Calibration Parts List for 88 & UP. On-Line for Free at Ford. Click "Quick Guides" in left panel; Scroll to & CLICK VECI Labels "Provides Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) and a related calibration parts list." Enter applicable info (need to know your Calibration number (also called catch code) from your B-pillar sticker; since engine was swapped, just pick out any cal #). Vacuum Diagram is the same as the one on the core support or hood or air filter cover. Suggest Right Clicking this Hot Link & Open in New Window

Chips usually call for Prem Gas;

some go further and use a TwEECer®

Overview, Forums, Downloads, etc.; "...The TwEECer® is an adapter which connects to the J3 service port of a Ford EEC PCM, giving you the ability to substitute parameters in the calibration data with parameters that match the modifications which you have made to your engine..." read more

The Ford EEC contains a PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory) to permanently store the OEM calibration (the stock tune). The EEC-IV EPROM is difficult to re-write, though it is possible, it is not something that would be useful as a commercial product for our target market. The EEC-V (1996 to 2004) uses an EEPROM, which can be reasonably erased and re-written using the OBD-II standards.

The EEC has a card-edge interface connection at the rear of the unit called the Service (J3) port, where an external EEPROM can be connected. When connected to this port, the contents of the external EEPROM can be substituted for the internal (E)EPROM. This this is how the TwEECer and all other Chip Module makers, can make changes to the OEM calibration. The 1996 and newer vehicles can be re-flashed using a hand held programmer connected to the OBD-II interface. The TwEECer does not make use of the OBD-II port, we ONLY interface through the Service port.

Ok i am not trying to hijake your thread but merly asking a question for your benefit. Are there any differences between the 351 that is speed density and the 351 that is Mass Air Flow.
