Hello Group!

I am new to the forum and new to Early Broncos, but excited to learn. I have a bit of mechanical understanding and a few tools. What I don't have is time or money right now. :-(

If all goes well, attached will be pictures of my newly acquired "barn finds."

1971: Not running right now. Has a straight 6 and possibly a D30 front (but I guess it could be a D44?). It lost a door to the '73 after the PO threw a fit and ripped the 73's door off. (Nicely done, PO.)

1973: Runs. Kind of. Comes with a plow which I will probably be needing in a few months. 8 cylinder (probably a 302?).

Both bodies look terrible. Frames have some rust on them that I am hoping will clean up without incident.

Current plans? Keep them both. Make them both run. Maybe do a frame-off on the 1971 (tub it?) and an engine swap. Will likely do disc brake conversions on the fronts of both. Also, mild lifts and lots of body work. I'm thinking to make a pair of extrememly utilitarian vehicles. No show-queens.

A couple things I'm wondering about with these Early Broncos:

1) Does anyone make "all-weather" seats? Can I take a top off, put seats in, and not worry about rain and such? Obviously I'd paint/protect the rest of the truck so it doesn't get destroyed by the elements.

2) Do people do coil spring conversions for rear ends?

Thanks for the forum, and I look forward to picking your brains for advice and contributing pictures and write ups whenever I actually finish something.

Welcome to the Zone!

You say you don't have much money, but have you checked into how much Bronco's from those years are worth? No matter the shape, those babies are worth some bucks!!!

As for your #1 question, I have looked for the same kind of seats...I use my Bronco at the lake with the top off all summer, so I have been looking around for water/weatherproof seats. The best kind I've seen are made out of scuba divers wetsuit material, I plan on getting such seat covers from Wet Okole www.wetokole.com and installing this winter before the next lake-boating-camping season here.

Looking forward to hearing about your progress!
