I have a 96. I have the dual shocks up front and need rear ones as well. 6 total, are there different sizes for the duals up front? What should I know about the sizes when searching for new ones? or do the suppliers already list them for the appropriate locations. ie: front-front of axle, front-behind axle, rear. Also, I read in another post that some guys have broke the "stud", can someone tell me what "stud" their talking about, and what can I do to nut break it.

I dont go off roading, no lift, just semi driver and trails to the fishing and camping spots. Since I need 6, any suggestions on the brand and model I should be looking for without breaking the bank

thanks in advance

If your looking for a good factory replacement, you will never go wrong with monroe. Make sure you **** the nuts and bolts very liberally with a good penetrating lubricant like the good ol' WD/40 The stud at the top of the rear shocks tend to break off. Be careful with that one or your in for a bit of work. The rest should be fine, I dont remember any problems, if those ones break you just need new bolts.

On the lower shock mount in FRONT of the TTB axle, there is only a stud sticking out. This is the part that I've seen break once in a while. The brand of shock preference is going to vary among the members, and there may be some prior posts with suggestions. Most brands do have an application chart online, and most will list the part numbers for each location. The shock in front of the TTB axle is often considered the main/ primary, while the shorter shock behind the axle (mounted to the radius arm) can be called the auxillary one. I've used Pro Comp ES9000's before, but am now runningthe Superlift shocks on all my rigs. I get the $9 ones from the Scratch&Dent store that Superlift has on ebay. I've also had good luck with the Rancho 5000's, which run about $35/each.

I've been running the rough country nitro 9000...I do a fait amount of off-roading and they seem to hold up just fine...They also give a decent road ride also...There about $35 a shock through j.c.whitney...my 85 also takes 6 shocks... B)
