Hey everyone,

Don't know if someone posted this already but I need help with my 91 Bronco EB edition. :(( I am trying to renew my registration but my bronco didn't pass smog. It passed on normal idle speed but failed at 2,500 rpm or high speed due to high CO. The mechanic told me that my ride is running too rich. Could use your wise knowledge and wisdom. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks in advance!! :)>-

The richness of your fuel air mixture is highly dependant on the O2 sensor. The computer looks at the output from the O2 sensor to make decisions on adjusting the mixture. Did the mechanic tell you what your codes were and what they ment? The codes should give a good indication of why it is too rich, most likely due to a failing sensor. It is not necessarily the O2 sensor that is failing, so the codes should give a bettter idea what the computer sees.

Good luck,

:)>-

The mechanic didn't mention anything about the codes since it was only a smog inspection. Don't you have to run a diagnostic to see what wrong with it and to get the codes or you can get the codes even with smog inspection? I must be blind co'z I don't see on my reports about the codes.

I don't know anything about your states smog inspection proceedures.  They are different from state to state.  I'm surprised that they didn't read your codes for you. You can take it to some place like Auto Zone and they will put a reader on it to see what the computer says.  On the other hand, maybe you would rather have the mechanic fix it, did he offer to do it?

I'm in CA and yes he did offer to fix it but he has to charge me $200 first to run a diagnostic then the labor which will cost me an arm and a leg from what he's saying. I'm not sure if all mechanic charges $90 an hour to work on a vehicle? Prolly gonna have to ask around from other shops. Anyway, I'd prolly go to Auto Zone and have them try of what you said about a reader and stuff. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks man,

Yah, go to Auto Zone or some place like that. He had no real incentive to help beyond emptying your wallet he wants the $200+ for the repair.
