I have a 1989 Bronco 351. I replaced the whole steering column. But some how I still have the same problem I had before. The truck won't start I can turn the key over and I get power to everything(I get fuel and spark). I can jump the starter solenoid and my truck WILL run. I can turn if off with the key. I just can't start it with the key. I can turn it to the "run" postion and I get power but it won't try to start(turn over). I checked the actuators and there intact. If the key is in the "off" postion I can't put it in any other gear. Im at a lost I think I'm missing something but I don't know what. Any help I would appreciate.

Hi Chandra, welcome....

"I replaced the whole steering column. But some how I still have the same problem I had before."

In doing this., does/did it include the actual "KEY-SWITCH" as well..?

Or did you use your orig./existing key-switch, & install it in the newer column.?

Welcome Chandra,

With the key in the start position, ( as if you are starting, or cranking the engine.) you should have power, (12volts) to the red wire with the light blue stripe, on the starter solenoid. That closes the solenoid contacts and provides power to the starter. If you do not have power to the red/lt blue wire. check to see if you have power comming out of the ignition switch, to the same red/ lt blue wire. The switch should be able to be adjusted slightly up or down the column. Loosen the 2 mounting screws, (do not take them out.) and slide the switch toward the actuater rod. tighten the screws and try again.

If you still have no power comming out, try to jump the red/ lt blue wire to 12v. ( BE SURE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK)

If the truck cranks, the ignition switch is the problem.

If you still have a non cranking engine, procede to the park/ neutral switch, ( OR CLUTCH INTERLOCK ) if you have a manual trans.

If you have no power to the park neutral switch, there is an open somewhere between the ign and park/ neut. switch.

If you have power out of the park/ neutral switch, but not at the solenoid, there is an open somewhere between the switch and the solenoid.

Good luck

Let us know your results.

Thanks you so much for your help. I took everything apart again. The lower actuator's top tooth was stripped. I don't know how I missed it the first time. I also don't think I was getting the gear in the right place that or because the actuator was stripped it was slipping out of place.

thanks again guys :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
