Ok I bought an 89 bronco auto with 5.0 in it. Ran good but battery kept draining. So i went to replace the battery and somehow hooked it up backwards and now it wont start. I replaced the fuel pump relay and eec relay and starter switch as well as some wiring that was hacked up. Now the fuel pump doesnt kick on unless I use a jumper wire and its not the relay as i have used 3 new ones. usin a voltmeter i did get a reading of .50 on the map sensor and kicked the inertia switch just in case. It will start with starting fluid but then it dies right out. Seems it has to be a fuel issue right? but when jumped I get fuel to the rail but not able to run still.. Any ideas?

when you say the fuel pump works if you use a jumper, where exactly are you jumping from and to? if you turn the key towards start, without actually engaging the starter, can you hear the fuel pump whine/relay click?

I responded to the other thread you started on this.

Now I see that you posted this i wish i could help but I cant get either one to read with my actron KOEO or KOER. wish i could but it just tells me after 3 minute countdown connection error in another thread.

One reason (amoung others) for a "no connection" error, is becuase of a blown fuse to the self test connector. A blown fuse would also give you a no response at the relays, and therefore no fuel pump action.

Here is a little ditty I wrote up about how to check fuses.

yes I thought I posted that in the wrong area I did check my fuses is there more than one fuse block? The only one I found was under the dash on the driver side. Or is it a fusible link?

As far as I know there is only one fuse block.

Later models have a power distribution box under the hood.

The data link connector for the self test is often on the same fuse as the cigar lighter. Does your cigar lighter work?

thats why you put stuff together the exact way it came apart so you don't end up putting a battery in backwards and frying your expensive and complicated electrical system.

did you learn your lesson?
