I have a 1980 bronco with push button 4 x 4 and I would rather have a manual shift 4 x 4 can this be done without major surgery?

You will have to have a manual T case and the cover in the floor will have to be changed so you have a shifter opening to do it right or you could just hack a hole in the floor . Not really major surgery but definate parts change :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

If you can find a donor truck (Bronco, F150, F250) in a local junk yard with 4x4 and floor shift, it should have the two hole floor plate plus maybe a set of usable boots.

Good luck,

:)>-

You'll need a new transfer case, or at least try to remove the electronic control shift box to make room for the manual lever. I've never done this myself, but I read my Haynes Manual more than my homework.

ACTUALLY, i believe you can swap some of the internals and linkage from a manual shift tcase to an electric shift tcase. if you look at them side by side, they both have provisions for both manual and electric shift. it would probably be easier to just swap in the manual case, but where's the fun and learning in that?

Well actually you can not make a manual an auto or an auto a manual . The cases are actaully different on the inside and the internals are way different . Like Seabronc said "donor truck" :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I am 100% sure about that I have 2 tore down here right now an electric and a manual just because they use the same casting outside doesnt mean it has the same machinging on the inside . The entire shift mechanism is different and very few parts are interchangable . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
