I put a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on the Bronco yesterday. I took it out for a ride and I started to notice this sickening smell coming in the cab. I got home and noticed the aluminum coating on the muffler had melted. What would cause this?

Keep your hot line open to the fire company. I'll bet it was cherry red under there. You could run it for a while and look under the truck an see if the cat and muffler are red hot. If so, it won't be long till your rug catches on fire. I get the feeling that truck is out to get you. :-&

Good luck,

:)>-

Take that piece back to where you got it...it has got to be some kind of defect. Invest in a pair of Flowmaster 40's...maybe the offroad series...and forget about it for a few years. I'm thinking you need to nickname your Bronco "Jinx" my friend. It may indeed be "Lexus Proof" but is it Jim proof? LOL

Take care bro.

Yeah, my bronco wants me dead. I'm going to put a new O2 sensor in today and then play around with it.

It's not surprising that you would be getting a smell of something burning with new exhaust, but if it didn't go away after the 1st day or so I'd be concerned. While every coating I've ever had on a new system seems to burn off you may have a clearance problem & it very well could be the floor & carpet trying to burn.

On my 89 POS decided after I put new exhaust including cat on it that it would have an injector stick resulting in the hot smell leasting for a week until it completely melted the cat contents into the muffler. When I crawled under it lots of cherry red exhaust that got to be replace again along with replacing the injectors still burns my butt thinking about.

The O2 sensor can't cause quite that much fuel to dump into the system but it can add enough to get that cat way hotter than it should be.

if it gets beat red , that comes from the exaust valuves in the cyclinder head staying open for to long... cause bad timing but i think that only if the headers get red though
