Does any one know if you need a ballast resistor when installing a MSD ignition system. I'm thinking of going witha MSD6AL, MSD Blaster 2, and for the present I think the stock Ford distributor. Will probably upgrade to MSD distributor later.

The information is probably right in front of my nose but can't seem to find it. Oh yah, my truck has the Duraspark II system in it.

Thanks Blade :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . Wasn't sure of that since the Ford system uses a resistive ballast wire for the coil.

No problem MSD uses full power to the box theres actually 10 guage wire ground and positive that are supposed to be run back all the way to battery then you have an orange and black that go to the coil hmmmm wait rather than write all this out heres the diagram . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have MSD on everything I own so if you have any questions feel free also the advance weights in the duraspark get pretty rough after awhile so you might want to look at a MSD timing computer too very easy to use . Heres some pics to show where they are http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Du...ions_index.html :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was running a MSD 6AL in my 83 with a Blaster coil and Pro Billet dist. Very very nise setup, my throttle responce greatly improved over stock. I mounted my 6AL box on the passengers side fender behind the starter solenoid. I thought it was a great place it kept the box a little more stable and farther away from water. Just don;t mount it too high or your hood spring coil will hit it.

Seabronc, If you haven't bought anything yet I gotta tell you - I got a Proform HEI 1-wire distro from (BroncoGraveyard has them) and it's sweet. Everything is under the cap, no resistor or coil to mess with. Best thing is that it's VERY watertight. After rebuilding the motor it cranked on the very first tap of the ignition. I feel compelled to recommend, just my 2 pesos.
