i have an 89 xlt, i droped a 351w in it with a carb, i bought an HEI distributor from bronco graveyard, wired it, but no spark, it has power direct from the battery for now , i pulled the coil out to check contacts, at first the spring that touches the bottom of the coil wasnt touching, it was hitting a big rubber washer, so i droped the washer over the spring then put the coil back together hopping that fixed it, nope still no spark. everything is making contact, im stumped and so is my mr know-it-all chevy friend. any ideas?

get a haynes manual and run the tests for the durasparkII ignition system, or mainly check for power to the coil, check connections to the ignition module

and go from there.

ok i am screwed! i need to get this thing running in 2 weeks and i have nothing. no spark what so ever, i stole my buddys gm hei out of his truck that we know for a fact that works. i tried his cap, rotor, coil, ignition mod, every thing that i could swap i did and still got nothing, i played with a continuity tester for hours, every thing is grounded, or has continuity. brand new plugs that are gapped and new plug wires. i have stumped every back yard mechanic, certified mechanic, car guy, auto parts store, the only thing i didnt do is call the company that makes the distributor, anything and i mean anything would be greatly Appreciated guys

I forgot what it is called, but is there a ceramic connector between the coil and distributor. I can't remember if mine is between my msd box and coil or between my coil and distributor. but anyways I know mine went bad and it would give any spark either.. maybe something to check out if you have one. also another question are you running an msd box or the factory ignition setup?

connect a test light between the (-) tach side of the coil and a good engine ground.

Crank the engine.

It should flash, does it?

If not the problem is likely the coil, the pick up inside the dizzy, or wireing between.
