my 87 302 is showing signs of motor oil, not trans fluid, in coolant. however, no signs of any coolant escaping into oil system. recently replaced a freeze plug so am suspicious of hairline crack somewhere in block. there is a little white smoke on engine startup, but gone after warm-up. tried some block sealer to no avail, so looks like a teardown and inspection. wondering if anyone had experienced a similar problem and if so, had any tips..or suggestions??

Pull the plugs and check them for an antifreeze smell on them(will kind of look whitish on the plug) if so sounds like tear down to me. When you pull the heads off check near the center of the heads around the valves(this is where the heat will consentrate and crack the head usually) but also check the gasket real close to make sure it was sealing all the way around. Hope this helps you.
