Welcome to the Zone Zach > . That is a pretty general question, how big is your budget? :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I assume that you actually mean, increase power and still keep the same engine? There are guys on here with I6s that love them. It is a workhorse engine and has it's place. If you are talking about a performance machine, then start looking into changing the engine and finding a good block to build on.

Post some pictures of your truck

Good luck,

:)>-

Hi Zach,

In the "hot-boat" business, there's a general rule.....if you have a 90mph boat, & want to go 100mph....pull 10K out of your wallet.

1K per mile an hour..!

That is a great motor you have there...stump-pulling torque & plenty of horse power. :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The above formula can be cut by a factor of 10 (or more) for your truck

because you have more than the engine to work with.

For example; tires, axle gearing, Trannie & transf. gearing, etc.

Where do you need this extra HP..? I'm thinking your wanting road-speed ...... <_< These rigs aren't built for that & quite frankly, they can become more dangerous at higher speeds.. b-(

At 16, you've got plenty to learn & plenty of fun to be had just like it sits.

Now, if the current I-6 engine is "sick-n-tired" then there's plenty of power gained with a re-build.

There are aftermarket carbs, hedders & exhaust systems that improve performance. $-)

"Enjoy the ride"..!

Bob

While I agree with Bully and Seabronc I also think you should be able to get as much information as possible about your engine, so try this site:

fordsix.com

Click on FSP Forums at the top, go to the bottom of the page answer their question, than look in the engine section. Hope that helps.

All good advice so far. Best advice so far is to run it as is for a while. You're most likely never going to get massive amounts of top end power out of it. The engine just wasn't designed for it. You will find that it has an insane torque/hp ratio at the low end though.

If it's sluggush in takeoffs, then you've probably got something wrong with it. Other than that, the first place I would start would be to get it breathing better.

I agree with the previous posts. IF you really want alot more HP, drop in a 460 c.i.d. motor. I have the 300 I-6 in my 86 Bronco, and it is stock. I believe it would pull down a house if asked to, but my 351W H.O. has nearly twice the HP. I think it would have a very hard time pulling down that house, but will burn the rubber on pavement. BTW, I have pulled down an old house with a Chevy K-10 GM 350, but it ruined the motor.
