Hi everyone. I'm determined to get this thing to run smoothly but it doesn't seem to want to cooperate. It seems that on one day the engine will idle rather smoothly right around 650 RPMs. Then the next day (as in today) it is very lopey and the whole vehicle throbs like I have a super-aggressive cam while it idles around 400-500. It'll probably be fine tomorrow, perhaps. Both situations are after it warms up. I don't really know where to start looking...any suggestions?

vaccum leak, check your intake bolts and vaccum hoses

Is the "trick" about putting the dollar bill at the end of your exhaust to see if it gets sucked back in a legitimate way to see if there are vacuum leaks? If so, mine does not go back toward the exhaust. However, there are plenty of ******* throughout the engine bay that have nothing attached nor are they plugged. If I can find a place to host pics I'll post some pictures I've taken of the various places that have nothing hooked up.

What are you working on ??  :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

never heard that way of checking for vaccum leaks. dont really see how that would work. but i digress. where on the motor are these "*******"? are they on the upper intake manifold, perchance? set up an account at superford.org, its free and allows you to host all your pics, movies, and soundbytes. then post your pics on here and we'll see if there is an obvious problem. the reason i mentioned intake bolts previously is that my engine lopes when it gets hot. jumps around 500 RPMs. i also have three broken off intake bolts mating the upper and lower intakes. i can hear the air getting sucked in, and can feel it with my hand. but she's a trail rig so im not that concerned about it. been that way for a couple years now
